It is noteworthy that Mahua Moitra has been accused of taking money and asking questions in Parliament. The Ethics Committee of Parliament, which was investigating these, had recommended the abolition of Mahua’s MP in the Lok Sabha. What allegations were made against Mahua? 

Mahua was accused of asking questions in Parliament on behalf of industrialist Darshan Hiranandani in return for expensive gifts. Not only this, he is accused of having disclosed his parliamentary login ID and password to Hiranandani so that he could ask questions directly.

The matter was being looked into by the Ethics Committee headed by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar. In its meeting on November 9, the committee had accepted the report recommending the expulsion of Moitra from the Lok Sabha on the charges of taking money and asking questions in the House. Six members of the committee voted in favour of the report.
