Bihar Assembly Election: 53 percent voter turnout recorded till 6 PM in Phase 2

In the first phase of Bihar assembly polls which were held on October 28, the voter turnout was recorded at 55.69%. Polling was held at 71 assembly constituencies amidst tight security and COVID-19 regulations.

Out of the total 2.85 crore electors in 94 constituencies, 53% cast their votes till 6 PM in the Bihar Assembly Polls, on Tuesday during the Phase 2. The time for voting was extended by the Election Commission by one hour for facilitating COVID-19 patients and those with symptoms of the disease to exercise their right to vote with a final hour.

The voting commenced at 7 AM. Prominent figures and political leaders such as the present Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) President Chirag Paswan and CM candidate Tejashwi Yadav of Mahagathbandhan led by Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) cast their votes in their respective polling booths.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to voters to exercise their right of voting while following COVID-19 guidelines. “Votes will be cast for the second phase in Bihar assembly elections today. My appeal to all voters is that they make this celebration of democracy successful by voting in large numbers. During this, along with the following social distancing, wearing a mask,” PM tweeted.
