In accordance with a report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) cited by ‘Mint’, among 78 ministers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s led cabinet, 33 ministers have declared criminal cases against them.

In these 33 ministers, four ministers namely John Barla, Nitish Pramanik, Pankaj Choudhary, V Muraleedharan have cases on murder attempts. The other 24 ministers possess declared serious criminal cases coupled with murder, robbery, etc. Moreover, seven ministers have declared cases on the electoral violation.

Following the cabinet reshuffling, 43 MPs took oath as Ministers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet. 28 ministers of states and 15 new cabinet ministers were sworn, adding the strength of the council of ministers to 78.

Nisith Pramanik, the youngest minister in the cabinet at 35, has declared a case regarding murder (IPC Section- 302) against himself. He is from the Cooch Behar constituency and is appointed as Minister of State for Home Affairs.

John Barla, Pankaj Choudhary, and V Muraleedharan have declared cases pertaining to an attempt to murder (IPC Section – 307).

Furthermore, 70 new ministers are crorepatis who have assets estimated to Rs 1 crore.

Jyotiraditiya Scindia (more than Rs 379 crore), Piyush Goyal (around Rs 95 crore), Narayan Rane (nearly Rs 87 crore) along Rajeev Chandrasekhar (over Rs 64 crore) have been considered as ‘High asset minister’.

The average worth of assets per individual minister is recognized to be almost Rs 16.24 crore.

On the other hand, the cabinet minister whose assets are lowest in the group is Pratima Bhoumik from Tripura (around Rs 6 lakh), John Barla from West Bengal ( more than 14 lakh), Kailash Choudhury from Rajasthan (nearly Rs 24 lakh), Bishweswar Tudu from Odisha (around Rs 27 lakh), and V Muraleedharan from Maharashtra (over Rs 27 lakh).
