PM Narendra Modi to virtually address the BIMSTEC Summit today

The summit will be hosted by Sri Lanka as it currently chairs BIMSTEC.

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 5th BIMSTEC Summit virtually. The summit will be hosted by Sri Lanka as it currently chairs BIMSTEC.

A meeting was held on March 28-29 to prepare for the BIMSTEC Summit. Economic, healthcare & technological partnerships will likely be discussed. “The Covid pandemic related challenges, and the uncertainties within the international system that all BIMSTEC members are facing, imparts greater urgency to the goal of taking BIMSTEC technical and economic cooperation to the next level. This is expected to be the main subject of deliberations by Leaders at the Summit,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

MEA S Jaishankar participated in the 18th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting in Colombo. He emphasized group collaboration in the field of connectivity, energy & maritime activities. The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) has a total of 7 members that are Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand.
