An official announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 90th Interpol general assembly on Tuesday, which will be attended by delegations from 195 member countries made up of ministers, country police chiefs, heads of national central bureaus, and senior police officers.
From October 18 to October 21, New Delhi will be the site of the general assembly.
“Prime Minister Modi will address the 90th Interpol general assembly on October 18 at around 1:45 PM in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi”, as per the PMO statement.
Delegations from 195 Interpol member nations, including ministers, heads of national central offices, and top police personnel, will attend the gathering.
The general assembly, Interpol’s highest governing body, convenes once a year to make significant decisions about how the organisation will operate.
After an absence of approximately 25 years—the previous conference was in 1997—the gathering is now taking place in India.
“The Interpol General Assembly meeting is taking place in India after a gap of about 25 years – it was last held in 1997,” the release read further.
The assembly overwhelmingly agreed to accept India’s proposal to hold the Interpol general assembly in New Delhi in 2022, which also happens to be the country’s 75th anniversary of independence.
The statement claims that the occasion offers a chance to present to the entire globe the best practises of India’s law and order system.
“The event provides an opportunity to showcase best practices in India’s law and order system to the entire world,” the statement said.
Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, the director of the CBI, and Interpol President Ahmed Naser Al Raisi will all be in attendance.
