PM Modi urges calm after earthquake tremors in Delhi-NCR, assures close monitoring

New Delhi, February 17, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to stay calm and follow safety precautions after an earthquake of magnitude 4.0 hit New Delhi and nearby areas early on Monday morning.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi reassured the public that authorities are closely monitoring the situation. He emphasized the need for vigilance against possible aftershocks and advised people to follow safety measures.

“Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation,” the Prime Minister posted.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake struck at 5:36 AM IST at a depth of 5 km, with its epicenter in New Delhi. While there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties, the tremors were strong enough to be felt in parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and avoid panic. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and local agencies are on standby to address any emergencies.
