Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said it was a “blessing from God” that his helicopter could not fly due to heavy rains, forcing him to undertake a 65 km road journey from Imphal to Churachandpur. Along the way, the Prime Minister said he was deeply moved by the love and warmth of the people, who came out carrying the tricolour to greet him.

“Due to heavy rains, my helicopter could not land, so I decided to travel by road. And today, seeing the scenes along the road, my heart says that it was a blessing from God that my helicopter did not fly. Travelling by road, witnessing the love and warmth shown by people of all ages, children and the elderly alike, carrying the tricolour along the way, is a moment I will never forget in my life,” PM Modi wrote on X.

The Prime Minister’s visit to Churachandpur is significant, as the district was the epicentre of the ethnic clashes that broke out over two years ago, leaving at least 260 people dead and thousands displaced. Modi met families who lost their homes in the violence, assuring them of the Centre’s continued support.

Calling Manipur the “land of courage and determination,” PM Modi underlined that peace was essential for progress and urged communities to come together for reconciliation and rebuilding.
