In an official statement on Saturday, it was announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the next instalment of financial benefit under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on August 9.
“This will enable the transfer of an amount of more than Rs. 19,500 crores to more than 9.75 crores beneficiary farmer families. Prime Minister will interact with farmer-beneficiaries during the event and will also address the nation.” Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in the statement.
Union Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar will also be present on the occasion.
Under the PM-KISAN scheme, a financial benefit of Rs. 6000/- per year is provided to the eligible beneficiary farmer families, payable in three equal 4-monthly instalments of Rs.2000/- each. The fund is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. In this scheme, Samman Rashi of over Rs. 1.38 lakh crores have been transferred to farmer families so far.
PM KISAN scheme was introduced in February 2019. According to Zee News, the benefits of the scheme were admissible only to Small & marginal Farmers’ families, with combined landholding up to 2 hectares. The Scheme was later on revised in June 2019 and extended to all farmer families irrespective of the size of their landholdings.
Central and state government employees and professionals like doctors, engineers, lawyers, and retired pensioners with a monthly pension of over Rs 10,000 and those who paid income tax in the last assessment year are also not eligible for the benefits of the scheme, Zee News reported.
