Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet all Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs from West Bengal in Parliament on Wednesday, sources confirmed. The meeting comes just days before the key Parliamentary discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll scheduled for December 9, a matter that has sparked political tension in the state.

The Special Intensive Revision will be taken up along with other election reform discussions, including the 150th anniversary of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, which is set for debate in the Lok Sabha on December 8. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju earlier informed that these discussions were finalised during the All-Party Meeting chaired by the Lok Sabha Speaker.

TMC’s Opposition to SIR in Bengal

The Mamata Banerjee–led Trinamool Congress has been a strong opponent of the SIR exercise in West Bengal. With the state heading toward Assembly elections in 2026, PM Modi’s meeting with Bengal MPs gains additional political significance.

West Bengal figures in Question Hour

The state was also discussed during Question Hour when a query was raised regarding funds allotted under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and the Animal Husbandry Development Fund (AHIDF).

Responding to the question, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) said development must reach every state for India to become a Viksit Bharat. He noted that while PM Modi launched PMMSY to transform India’s fisheries sector, West Bengal had “not supported this initiative.”
