In a major development that could shake up trade ties between India and the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a high-level Cabinet meeting tomorrow at 1 PM to assess the impact of the fresh tariff hike imposed by the U.S., according to India Today.

The report comes just a day after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order slapping an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods — effectively doubling the total levy to 50%.

The move follows Washington’s repeated warnings over India’s continued oil imports from Russia despite Western sanctions. In his statement, Trump accused India of showing a “strategic disregard” for U.S. sanctions, noting that while other allies have scaled back energy ties with Moscow, India has continued — even expanded — its purchases of Russian crude.

This is the most aggressive trade measure Trump has taken against India since returning to office and is expected to put serious pressure on the already fragile diplomatic balance between the two nations.
