Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha on February 8, 2023, as he replied to the Motion of Thanks addressed by the President. He took the opportunity to applaud the entire seated members on their acceptance of the development milestones stated by the President.
During the speech, BJP members broke into chants of ‘Modi, Modi’ as the prime minister listed out the public welfare initiatives of his government. Opposition members raised the slogan of ‘Adani, Adani’ to counter the BJP members.
PM Modi, in his address, mentioned the various schemes that his government had initiated for public welfare while accusing the former UPA government of having a 10-year regime full of scams, from 2004-2014. He did not fail to attack the Congress party on their constant blame on any system that does not favor them from accusing EVMs and the Election Commission during Elections to the apex court on not passing a favorable decision.
The Opposition had demanded an inquiry into the fall of stock prices of the Adani Group, a topic that the PM did not touch upon, instead, he took a dig at Rahul Gandhi for his Bharat Jodo Yatra claiming that he had been threatened to be killed if he hoisted the Tricolor at Lal Chowk however he went there unarmed and came back alive whereas Rahul Gandhi had to switch from his foot journey to a bullet-proof car in Jammu and Kashmir on the pretext of security infringement.
Apart from these allegations, PM Modi congratulated the nation on emerging as a manufacturing hub where the international community sees its development as synonymous with the development of India. Adding to this he further targeted the Opposition by saying, ”… some people who are neck deep in frustration refuse to accept India’s growth story. They cannot see the achievements of 140 crore Indians,”
PM Modi called the trust of 140 crore Indians his protective shield as he has served the public relentlessly in his tenure.
As the events flowed several Opposition MPs walked out of Lok Sabha as PM Modi continued his reply to the Motion of Thanks addressed by President Droupadi Murmu.
