In a sharp escalation following Operation Sindoor, the Indian Ministry of Defence confirmed on Thursday that Pakistan attempted to target several Indian military installations across Northern and Western India during the night of May 7 and the early hours of May 8, 2025.
According to the official statement, Pakistani forces launched drones and missiles aimed at multiple Indian military locations, including Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.
However, India’s Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems successfully intercepted and neutralised these threats. Debris from these attacks has been recovered from various locations, further substantiating Pakistan’s attempted escalation.
Tragically, 16 innocent civilians have been killed due to Pakistani mortar and artillery shelling across the Line of Control (LoC), with fatalities reported in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri. The deceased include three women and five children.
In response, India launched a proportionate and precise counter-attack. The Ministry of Defence confirmed a strike on a Pakistani Air Defence system in Lahore, stating:
“Indian response has been in the same domain with the same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised.”
The Indian government reaffirmed its non-escalatory posture, making it clear that while India does not intend to escalate tensions, it will respond firmly to any future provocation.
