In the aftermath of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a fresh advisory to all airlines operating in the region. The aviation watchdog has requested carriers to increase the number of flights from Srinagar to ensure smoother evacuations and onward travel for those affected by the situation.
The advisory comes amid heightened national alert following the horrifying incident on April 22, when gunmen opened fire on tourists in the popular Baisaran valley of Pahalgam, killing one and injuring at least twelve. The victim, Manjunath from Karnataka, was visiting with his wife and young son. His wife, Pallavi, later revealed in a heartbreaking statement that the attackers made chilling remarks, implying they were targeting Hindus.
As fears of further violence ripple across the region, tourists have begun cancelling hotel bookings and withdrawing upcoming travel plans to Kashmir. Travel agencies report a surge in last-minute cancellations, significantly denting the region’s tourism industry.
In response, the DGCA has asked airlines to waive cancellation and rescheduling charges for all Srinagar-bound or departing flights and ensure uninterrupted connectivity to other destinations across the country. This measure is aimed at reducing passenger inconvenience and restoring some stability amid rising uncertainty in one of India’s top tourist zones.
