A protest was organized outside the Supreme Court of India on Monday, October 6, 2025, following an incident in which a lawyer allegedly attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai during court proceedings.

The protest was staged to condemn the attack, and preparations had been made outside the apex court premises earlier in the day. Around 50 police personnel were deployed to manage the crowd and ensure that the situation remained under control.

Journalist Prabhakar Kumar Mishra shared a video of the protest on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “The protest outside the Supreme Court was against the attack on CJI Justice Gavai. Around 50 policemen were present, 20 cameras were there for coverage — and only five lawyers turned up for the protest.”

The shoe-throwing incident took place during a hearing when 71-year-old lawyer Rakesh Kishore allegedly hurled his footwear towards the CJI, claiming he was upset over remarks made by Justice Gavai related to Lord Vishnu. The act sparked widespread criticism and led to security tightening within the Supreme Court complex.

Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly spoke to CJI BR Gavai to express concern and inquire about the situation.

The event has raised questions about courtroom security and the increasing instances of public outrage being expressed within judicial premises.
