Odisha Health Minister Naba Kisore Das shot in the chest by cop who fired twice

According to witnesses, he was shot shortly as he stepped out of his vehicle.

On Sunday about 1 p.m., Odisha Health Minister Naba Kisore Das was fired at by an assistant sub-inspector near Gandhi Chowk in Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district. He was on his way to a programme when he was shot and suffered gunshot wounds to his chest. The cop fired two shots, seriously wounding the minister, who was transported to the hospital. According to witnesses, he was later evacuated to Bhubaneswar.

“Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) Gopal Das opened fire at the minister. “The minister is injured and has been rushed to the hospital,” Brajrajnagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Gupteswar Bhoi told reporters. Locals apprehended Gopal Das and took him into custody, according to the police.

According to witnesses, he was shot shortly after he stepped out of his vehicle. The motivations for the attack are still unknown.

Videos from the scene showed Mr. Das bleeding from the chest and people attempting to carry the unconscious minister and place him in the front seat of a vehicle.

Naba Das was the special guest for the launching of a public complaints office. A throng had gathered to greet him when he arrived. A gunshot was heard unexpectedly. “We witnessed a police officer fleeing after being shot from close range,” a witness stated.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik denounced the incident and demanded that it be investigated by the crime branch.

“I am shocked at the unfortunate incident of the attack. I strongly condemn this and pray for his early recovery. The Crime Branch has been directed to conduct an investigation.”Senior officers of the Crime Branch are asked to go to the spot,” he said.

Tension prevailed in the community following the event, with supporters of Mr. Das questioning “security breaches.” Some of them stated that a plot was planned to assassinate him.
