The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday, September 8, carried out searches at 22 locations across five states and Jammu and Kashmir in connection with its ongoing probe into a terror conspiracy case, officials said.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the raids were focused in Baramulla, Kulgam, Anantnag, and Pulwama districts, according to officials. The searches are part of the agency’s broader investigation into alleged networks linked to terror activities.

Meanwhile, in a parallel development, an encounter broke out in Kulgam district after security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Gudar forest area based on intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists.

Officials said the operation turned into a gunfight after terrorists opened fire on the security forces’ positions. The encounter was ongoing at the time of reporting, with additional reinforcements rushed to the spot.

The twin developments underline heightened counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir, combining NIA’s investigative measures with on-ground security actions by the armed forces.
