Today, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister of Nepal will grace India with a 3-day visit. Since taking over office in July 2021, this will be Deuba’s first visit outside Nepal. He visits India upon an invitation extended by PM Modi.

Sher Bahadur Deuba’s entourage includes his wife Dr. Arzu Deuba and a top-notch delegation. His itinerary is not very elaborate and is packed with tight schedules. He is to meet External Affairs Minister Jaishankar on day 1, on day 2 he is to meet PM Modi and VP M Venkaiah Naidu, and apart from his other engagements a visit to Varanasi, UP is on the cards.

Today as soon as he arrives he has a meeting scheduled with EAM Jaishankar. In a press release, Jiashankar stated that the Indo-Nepali ties go back ages and they share a very strong bond of trust, cooperation and friendship.

The Ministry of External Affairs in its official statement said,” Indo-Nepali bilateral alliance has grown significantly in all verticals showing great cooperation. This visit is very important for both India and Nepal to strengthen the bond further for mutual benefit.”

Recently at COP 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Sher Bahadur Deuba in Glasgow on November 2, 2021.

Sher Bahadur Deuba is a notable politician (Nepali Congress) and he served Nepal for a staggering length of 70 years. Strikingly this is Deuba’s 5th time as a PM and his first time was from September 1995 to March 1997.
