Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray to provide aide of Rs 5 lakhs to the families of deceased, seeks help of authorities

On Sunday, Uddhav Thackeray, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, expressed his grief over the fatality in the house collapses triggered by the landslides followed by heavy overnight rains in Mumbai and Mr. Thackeray announced an amount of Rs 5 lakh for the family of the victims.

Officials mentioned that on Sunday twenty five people died in the the metropolis due to the house collapse incidents after heavy showers which had caused severe water logging and disruption of the sub-urban train services and vehicular traffic.

CM Uddhav Thackeray spoke to I S Chahal, civic commissioner of Mumbai, and took stock from the rescue and relief operations. Mr Thackeray also directed the authorities to ensure the coordination of the National Disaster Response Force, Municipal Workers, Fire Brigade, and the Police for the rescue operations.

The CMO issued a statement which mentioned that the family of each of the victims would be provided with an aid of Rs 5 lakh and the injured would be provided treatment free of cost.

Ever since Saturday, when the heavy rains in the city, Uddhav Thackeray had been in a constant touch with the civic disaster control room.

Uddhav Thackeray also said that the people living near the Mithi river bank and places near the shore shall be evacuated early.

He also sought the authorities to ensure for the medical facilities in jumbo COVID-19 centres to not be affected due to the heavy rains.

Mr Thackeray also mentioned that steps shall be taken for draining out the rain water from the low lying areas and roads should be cleared for vehicular traffic movements, and steps shall also be taken for restoration of the suburban railway services.

Kirit Somaiya, the former BJP MP, paid a visit to the Bharatnagar locality in Mahul area of Mumbai, where fatality of 17 people occurred due to a compound wall collapsing following a landslide, earlier on Sunday.

Mr Somaiya said the the people were scared and as of now there were 17 deaths and 23 injuries alleged. He added that the mafia contractors of the municipal corporation and slum mafia were playing with the lives of the poor people. He added that it was very saddening.
