The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for multiple regions in Maharashtra, warning of thunderstorms, rainfall, and gusty winds.

A yellow alert is in place for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph.

“On Tuesday, parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Karjat and Kasara, witnessed unseasonal rains. Thunderstorms were witnessed in the interiors of Maharashtra. Mumbai is expected to have rainfall with thunderstorms on Wednesday. As Mumbai is witnessing cyclonic circulation, the skies are cloudy and we are witnessing increased humidity as well as dry weather,” IMD Mumbai Director Shubhangi Bhute stated.

Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Marathwada, parts of Vidarbha, Pune, and Nashik, where the IMD predicts more severe weather conditions. These areas could experience hailstorms and thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds ranging from 50-60 kmph, along with frequent lightning. The weather department advises residents to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during intense weather activity.
