Mumbai Crime Branch has detained three individuals who are suspected to be involved in sending threatening emails to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank.
A total of 11 bomb threats were reported at various locations across Mumbai. In response to these threats, police conducted thorough investigations at all 11 sites but found no evidence of any explosive devices. The emails reportedly demanded the resignations of RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The three people were taken into custody from Vadodara in Gujarat, with one of them identified as Adil Rafig, another being his relative, and the third individual reported as his friend.
Authorities are questioning the detained persons to find the intention behind the threatening emails. Additionally, the police are working to determine the device used to send the emails, which explicitly stated that the offices of RBI, ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank would face attacks if Sitharaman did not step down.
