Following the Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) disappointing showing in the Lok Sabha elections, party president Mayawati addressed the media on Wednesday, expressing her thoughts on the outcome.

Mayawati remarked that despite the BSP’s efforts to provide adequate representation to Muslims, the community seemed to have misunderstood the party’s intentions. Consequently, she stated that any future engagement with the Muslim community would require careful consideration to prevent a recurrence of the current setback.

In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, the BSP contested 424 seats nationwide and 79 in Uttar Pradesh, failing to secure a single seat, a repeat of its performance in the 2014 polls. The party’s national vote share dwindled to 2.04%, with Uttar Pradesh recording 9.39%, primarily drawing support from Jatav and Dalit communities.

Mayawati emphasized the importance of Dalit support, particularly from her community, expressing gratitude for their unwavering backing. She pledged to meticulously analyze the election results and undertake necessary measures for the party’s future benefit.

Furthermore, Mayawati criticized the prolonged duration of the elections, advocating for a maximum of four phases instead of the seven-phase schedule. She attributed the lower voter turnout to adverse weather conditions, asserting that it adversely impacted the electoral process.
