Manish Sisodia cited by Assam court in a criminal defamation case

This occurs as the CBI looks into his alleged participation in the “scam” involving the Delhi excise policy.

In a defamation case filed by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, a Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Assam’s Kamrup District has summoned Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia to appear on September 29.

Sarma, the case’s complainant, appeared in court on August 5 for an initial deposition in connection with the criminal defamation case filed against Sisodia.

Himanta Biswa Sarma had filed a criminal defamation case against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Manish Sisodia for allegations he made during a press conference linking Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma in a corruption case involving the supply of personal protection equipment in 2020 when the state was short of PPE kits.

In the press conference, Sisodia alleged that PPE kits were being supplied above market rates to the National Health Mission (NHM) authorities during the Covid 19 pandemic.

During the first BJP-led state government in 2020, Sarma was the minister of health and family welfare.

This occurs in the midst of the CBI’s investigation into the AAP leader’s alleged participation in the financial irregularities relating to the now-suspended Delhi Excise Policy.

Sisodia was listed as the primary suspect in the central agency’s FIR on the reported “scam” on August 19.
