The Maharashtra government has announced that the Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai will now be observed on September 18, 2024, instead of the originally planned date of September 16. This decision was made in response to requests from the local Muslim community.
The change in date comes as Anant Chaturdashi, the final day of the Ganesh festival, falls on September 17. To avoid any overlap between the two major religious events, the Muslim community has decided to hold their Eid processions on September 18. The government has adjusted the holiday to accommodate this decision.
The rescheduling only affects the Mumbai district. For other districts in Maharashtra, local authorities will decide whether to keep the holiday on September 16 or move it to September 18, based on the community’s preferences.
