Lucknow Metro to resume its operations from September 7 after ensuring safety

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has revised its operational framework ahead of the reopening of metro service from September 7 in order to ensure highest standards of health and hygiene.

“The Lucknow Metro has adopted the highest level of hygiene and safety measures for the well-being of commuters and it is the safest way to travel,” UPMRC MD Kumar Keshav said.

He said that the Lucknow Metro will be operational from 6 am to 10 pm, which used to be the normal timing before the pandemic and emphasis will be given on cleanliness inside the metro premises. Usage of GoSmart card is also encouraged which can be recharged online thereby making the travel contactless to a great extent. He also informed that markings and signage will be placed inside the stations stating the guidelines and the need to maintain social distancing. The Metro will be sanitised at regular intervals and Metro trains will also be sanitised twice a day, he said.

The decision has come after Mr Keshav had conducted an inspection of metro stations to review its operational preparedness wherein he instructed all the employees to wear masks, use gloves and ensure social distancing, according to a press release.

The metro services had been suspended in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic in late March.
