Lawyer, Rajiv Kumar, who had filed for a PIL against the Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was arrested by Kolkata Police Detective Department on the charges of scamming people for money. The Jharkhand Police had issued a warrant for his arrest to the Kolkata Police. Mr Kumar was arrested at a bar near Hare Street Police Station. Jharkhand Police claims that they have found a total sum worth Rs. 50 lakhs from him.
As per the latest report, Mr. Kumar had filed a PIL against a Kolkata-based Businessman at Ranchi High-Court. He was demanding a sum of Rs. 10 crore for withdrawing the PIL but after negotiation the sum amount was reduced to Rs. 4 crore and finally to Rs. 1 crore. Reports suggest that the first installment of pay meant was received on Sunday of rs. 50 lakhs, where he was caught red-handed.
Mr. Kumar had informed the businessman that he had connections with the central agencies and threatened to have his house and office raided. Rajiv Kumar has been the curator for more than 600 PIL’s. Previously two PIL’s were filed against CM Soren which had accused Soren of granting himself the mining lease while he had mining portfolio. He had also claimed that Soren was linked with shell companies and money laundering. CM Soren’s press advisor has also been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate.
