Kolkata witnessed a horrific high-speed accident on Wednesday morning after a Ferrari sports car lost control and crashed in front of the Kolkata Race Course, leaving two female sanitation workers in critical condition and two of the occupants of the vehicle, seriously injured.
According to initial reports, the Ferrari was travelling at a very high speed from the direction of SSKM Hospital when the driver lost control. The vehicle first rammed into the race-course boundary wall, then hit a lamp post, and finally overturned due to the impact. The rear portion of the car was left completely crushed and twisted at the crash site.
Police and emergency responders rescued the driver and passenger, both injured, along with the two critically hurt sanitation workers. All four were immediately rushed to SSKM Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Maharashtra number plate; identities not yet confirmed
The car reportedly carried a Maharashtra registration number, and early media reports suggest that a father-son duo was inside the Ferrari at the time of the crash. Their identities, however, have not yet been officially confirmed.
How the accident unfolded
Preliminary investigations indicate that excessive speed caused the vehicle to lose control before hitting the wall. The force of the collision caused the car to overturn.
Police have launched a full probe into the incident. CCTV footage from the surrounding area will be examined to determine the exact sequence of events, potential negligence, and whether other factors contributed to the crash.
More updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
