The Kolkata police have handed over Sanjoy Roy, the accused in the alleged rape and murder of a female doctor at a medical college in Kolkata, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This move follows the Calcutta High Court’s order to transfer the case from the Kolkata police to the CBI.
- High Court’s Concerns: The court questioned the police’s initial decision to register the case as an unnatural death and the delay in recording key witness statements, including that of former principal Sandip Ghosh.
FORDA Calls Off Strike
The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) has called off its indefinite strike, which was initiated in response to the incident.
- Health Minister’s Assurance: Union Health Minister JP Nadda assured FORDA of action on their demands, leading to the strike being called off.
Continued Protests
However, other medical associations, such as the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA), have decided to continue their strike. They are demanding a concrete resolution and implementation of their demands before ending their protest.
