The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a 13-hour search at the home of Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities and a recent rape-murder case at the hospital. The search, which lasted late into the evening, led to the seizure of multiple documents.

The CBI is probing both the financial dealings during Ghosh’s tenure and the tragic rape-murder of a young doctor at the hospital on August 9. The case has sparked widespread outrage and protests across the country.

During the search, CBI officials also visited the residences of former medical superintendent Sanjay Vashisth and 13 others connected to the hospital. The investigation includes those involved in supplying materials for patient care at the institution.

The Calcutta High Court recently handed over the corruption case to the CBI, following initial investigations by the state government. Dr. Ghosh, who had previously taken a polygraph test, was questioned again by CBI officers from 8 am on the day of the search. The agency has accused Ghosh and three Kolkata-based private entities of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and violations of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The CBI, now investigating the rape-murder case, suspects that the crime scene may have been tampered with, raising concerns of a possible cover-up. A Kolkata Police civic volunteer has been arrested in connection with the crime.
