Education Minister of Jharkhand, Jagarnath Mahto on Monday enrolled in a government-affiliated inter-college in Bokaro district, his assembly constituency, for pursuing his class 11 education.
“I was very offended when my capability of assuming the role of the HRD minister was questioned as I am still just a class 10 pass out,” Mahto said.
The 53-year-old minister had completed class 10 in 1995 from Nehru High School at Telo and wishes to pursue higher education as he was facing criticisms from people as well as some elected members regarding his qualifications.
According to the Times of India, the minister said, “I will complete my education, attend classes while I do agricultural work and serve the people. There is no age for education and learning. I will inspire people to do everything.”
Mahto will pursue arts stream at Devi Mahto Smarak Inter College, Navadih which was set up by him in 2006 and has decided to study Political Science as one of the subjects which is his field of work.
On how he will strike a balance between the ministry and regular classes, the minister said, “Let me get the admission first. I have just applied and for admission today. If my application falls under rules, I will get admission. Thereafter I will think about striking a balance,” quoted Hindustan Times.
The minister also added that an order has been passed on Monday to set up 4,416 schools in the state.
