Congress spokesperson, Jaiveer Shergill resigned from his post today on 24th August. In his resignation letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, he mentioned that the party’s decision was “influenced by the self-serving interests”.
Shergill also said, “It pains me to say that decision-making is no longer for the interests of the public and country, rather it’s influenced by the self-serving interests of individuals indulging in sycophancy and consistently ignoring on-ground reality.”
As per reports, the former spokesperson was not allowed to conduct press conferences for the past few months since the resignation of senior leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma. Thus he resigned from this role of the party.
Three days ago, the aforementioned senior leader Anand Sharma stepped down as the chairperson of the Congress’ steering committee for Himachal Pradesh, saying he was left with no choice after the “continuing exclusion and insults”.
In a letter to Mrs Gandhi, Sharma learnt that he was not consulted on the planning for Himachal’s assembly polls and cited that he was not invited for several discussions.
Anand Sharma took to Twitter and said “I have resigned with a heavy heart from the Chairmanship of the Steering Committee of the Congress for the Himachal Elections. Reiterating that I am a lifelong Congressman and remain firm on my convictions,”
Sharma added: “Committed to Congress ideology that runs in my blood, let there be no doubts about this! However, given the continuing exclusion and insults, as a self-respecting person- I was left with no choice.”
