As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, a wave of panic has spread across social media claiming that Amritsar is under immediate danger, with some unverified videos alleging missile activity in the area.

Amritsar district administration has issued an urgent advisory, urging citizens to remain calm and indoors, as reported by ANI.

“Taking utmost caution, Amritsar district administration has again started the blackout process. Please stay at home, do not panic and do not gather outside your houses; keep the outside lights switched off,” said the Amritsar DPRO in an official statement late Wednesday night.

The announcement came amid a surge of online reports claiming missile-like objects were seen in the sky, and suggesting surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) were launched from the vicinity of Amritsar Airport or surrounding defence zones. These claims have not yet been confirmed by any central defence authority.

These claims quickly gained traction, especially after earlier reports of sirens being heard in Sialkot, Pakistan — just across the international border from Jammu.

Here’s what locals are saying:
Multiple local users on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) posted that lights had gone out in parts of Amritsar, describing it as a “partial blackout.” While some acknowledged unusual air activity, others dismissed the missile footage as unrelated.

There is no official confirmation from the Indian Armed Forces, Punjab Police, or the Ministry of Defence that any hostile activity has occurred in Amritsar as of now.

Amid heightened military tensions, sirens were indeed reported in Sialkot earlier in the day, and videos allegedly showing fires in the area were circulated. However, journalists and fact-checkers have since flagged some of those visuals — including the so-called “Sialkot sunrise” — as old footage from Gaza, not Pakistan.

What should you know?

  • There is no confirmed missile strike on Amritsar.

  • Reports of blackouts are circulating but remain unverified by official sources.

  • Some locals claim to have seen unusual lights or heard sounds, but these accounts vary.

While tensions are undoubtedly high in the region, no official government source has confirmed any threat or strike in Amritsar. The circulating visuals should be treated with caution.

Note: Do not panic or spread unverified content. Rely only on official announcements for updates.
