The U.S. Embassy & Consulates in Pakistan issued a security alert on May 8, 2025, urging American citizens in Lahore and nearby areas to evacuate if it is safe or shelter-in-place in light of escalating conflict.

The alert comes amid reports of drone explosions, downed drones, and possible airspace incursions in and around Lahore, following India’s retaliatory airstrike that neutralised a key air defence system in Lahore in response to Pakistan’s attempted drone-missile attacks on 16 Indian cities.

The U.S. Consulate General in Lahore has directed all its personnel to remain indoors. It also confirmed receiving initial reports of evacuations near Lahore’s main airport, a development that follows heavy Indian air counterstrikes under Operation Sindoor.

In its advisory, the embassy urged citizens to:

  • Seek secure shelter.

  • Maintain updated travel documents.

  • Monitor local media for developments.

  • Cooperate with local authorities.

This advisory is the latest international response after the Ministry of Defence of India confirmed its proportionate strike on Pakistan’s air defence sites, including the one in Lahore, amid escalating Indo-Pak border tensions.
