India-US trade talks: PM Modi says teams working to conclude discussions soon, looks forward to speaking with President Trump

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump have reiterated their commitment to strengthening trade ties between India and the United States, signaling progress in negotiations aimed at reducing barriers and expanding economic cooperation.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi described India and the US as “close friends and natural partners,” expressing confidence that ongoing trade negotiations would unlock the limitless potential of the bilateral partnership. He added that both sides are working to conclude discussions at the earliest and said he looks forward to speaking with President Trump soon. “We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people,” Modi noted.

Responding earlier, President Trump announced that negotiations between the two nations are continuing to address trade barriers, and expressed optimism about their outcome. “I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our great countries,” Trump posted.

The statements come as India and the US continue to seek common ground on trade-related issues while expanding cooperation across technology, defense, and energy sectors. Both leaders’ comments underscore the strategic weight of the partnership at a time when global economic uncertainties demand stronger bilateral ties.
