In a significant step following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has ordered the closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari with immediate effect. The move comes as part of a broader set of diplomatic and security measures aimed at confronting cross-border terrorism.
According to the CCS statement, while the Attari ICP will remain closed for all future movement, an exception has been made for individuals who have already crossed over into India with valid endorsements. These individuals have been given a deadline to return to Pakistan by May 1, 2025.
The Attari-Wagah border crossing has long served as a key transit point between India and Pakistan, both for trade and civilian movement. Its closure signals a hardening of India’s stance in the wake of the Pahalgam tragedy and reflects growing security concerns linked to the misuse of cross-border facilities.
This step also comes amid mounting evidence of cross-border linkages in the attack that killed 26 tourists and injured many more. The CCS emphasized that India is committed to holding perpetrators and their sponsors accountable.
