India announces a $500 million aide for Maldives

Indian Government will support the Greater Male Connectivity Project with a grant of $100 million and an additional line of credit.

Post COVID-19 the anti-China resentment is slowly growing but with all its might China has been trying to exert economic and political pressure on many countries in order to solidify its position and expand its global political clout.
The Maldives had been under a pro-China administration under its previous president, but that has changed under the current administration of President Ibrahim Solih.
India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told the External Affairs Minister of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid, that the Indian Government will support the Greater Male Connectivity Project with a grant of $100 million and a $400 million line of credit.

Both, the Prime Minister of India and the President of Maldives issued public statements on the same.
