On Sunday, Air India flight AI244 carrying 129 passengers from Afghanistan’s capital Kabul landed in Delhi.
Concurrently, in a security alert, US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan averred, “The security situation in Kabul is changing quickly including at the airport. There are reports of the airport taking fire.”
As per the latest sources, India is closely observing the fast-paced situation in Afghanistan and will be concluding the evacuation of diplomatic personnel from Kabul amidst the Taliban conquer movement.
“I can’t believe the world abandoned Afghanistan. Our friends are going to get killed. They (Taliban) are going to kill us. Our women are not going to have any more rights,” said a woman who arrived at the Delhi airport from Kabul.
Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani absconded from the country for Tajikistan, after the Taliban intruded on the gates of the capital city Kabul. However, the US is trying hard to evacuate personnel from the embassy in Kabul within the next 72 hours, including the top officials, CNN reported. Moreover, Canada and Sweden are also set to withdraw their personnel from the embassy in Kabul.
Canada has stopped its operations at the country’s embassy in Kabul, CNN reported mentioning its Foreign Ministry official statement.
“The situation in Afghanistan is rapidly evolving and poses serious challenges to our ability to ensure the safety and security of our mission,” the statement read. “After consulting with Canada’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, the decision was made to temporarily suspend our diplomatic operations in Kabul,” it averred.
Sweden will evacuate all embassy staff in Kabul, Afghanistan, by no later than Monday, CNN added Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde’s statement.
As the Taliban has abruptly entered the gates of capital city Kabul, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid added: to prevent looting and chaos, they will enter some parts of Kabul and occupy outposts that have been evacuated by security forces. He also asked the people not to panic about their entry into the city.
