Following a pirate assault on a Bangladeshi-flagged ship off the coast of Somalia, the Indian Navy promptly intervened to rescue the hostages aboard. The targeted vessel, MV Abdullah, was transporting coal from Mozambique to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the time of the attack.

Upon receiving notification, the LRMP was promptly mobilized. By the evening of March 12, 2024, efforts were made to establish communication with the MV to determine the status of its crew members, but no response was received.

A warship deployed for Maritime Security Operations, which had been redirected, intercepted the hijacked MV on the morning of March 14, 2024. The safety of the crew, all Bangladeshi nationals, who were being held hostage by armed pirates, was confirmed. The Indian Navy warship maintained proximity to the MV until it reached the territorial waters of Somalia.

The Indian Navy stated on social media platform X that both an LRMP and a warship deployed for a mission swiftly responded to a piracy incident targeting MV Abdullah, a vessel flying the Bangladeshi flag, during its journey from Mozambique to the United Arab Emirates.
