In a fresh escalation between India and Pakistan, security officials have confirmed that a Pakistani drone attack aimed at Jalandhar, Punjab, was successfully intercepted and neutralised by Indian air defence systems. Explosions and light flashes reported by residents in various parts of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir triggered panic late Thursday night.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jalandhar issued a statement saying, “We have received similar reports—people are hearing sounds, and seeing lights. We have come here and are currently patrolling the area. So far, we haven’t noticed anything unusual. We advise everyone to avoid spreading rumors. If you see anything suspicious, please call the control room. Do not touch any unidentified object you find; instead, move away from it.”
This statement comes amid a wave of drone and missile activity originating from across the border. Pakistan launched eight missiles targeting critical military locations such as Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia. All missiles were successfully intercepted.
Pakistani drones were also shot down in Udhampur and Jaisalmer, where Indian air defence systems detected and neutralized the threats mid-air. Flashes and loud blasts were seen in the night sky, leading to complete blackouts being enforced in Jalandhar, Amritsar, Kishtwar, Akhnoor, Samba, and Bikaner to minimize visibility from aerial platforms.
The escalation follows India’s high-impact Operation Sindoor, a precision airstrike mission launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The operation reportedly dismantled terror infrastructure deep within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir.
Authorities are continuing investigations in Jalandhar and other cities. People are urged to remain vigilant and avoid circulating unverified information.
