In a fast-evolving situation, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) is set to conduct its third official briefing of the day on Saturday evening, just minutes after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full ceasefire. The latest MOD briefing is expected to elaborate on India’s military posture, developments under Operation Sindoor, and next steps following the ceasefire agreement.

WATCH HERE –

Earlier at 6:00 PM, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called his Indian counterpart at 3:35 PM today. Following the call, both sides agreed that “all firing and military action on land, in the air, and at sea” would cease from 5:00 PM IST onwards. Misri also stated that DGMOs of both countries will speak again on May 12 at 12:00 PM to review the situation and ensure compliance.

This de-escalation marks a significant shift following three days of intense cross-border hostilities. The ceasefire came amid growing international diplomatic pressure, most notably from the United States.

US President Donald Trump, in a statement on social media, said:

After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.

Shortly after, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed that:

Over the past 48 hours, Vice President J.D. Vance and I engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including PM Modi, PM Shehbaz Sharif, EAM Jaishankar, and both NSAs. The governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also posted on social media, officially confirming the ceasefire agreement, saying:

Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Meanwhile, Indian government sources clarified that the ceasefire was worked out directly between the two countries after the Pakistani DGMO initiated the call. There is no decision to hold talks on any other issue at any third location as of now.

With the upcoming MOD briefing, the focus will likely shift to operational specifics of India’s armed forces and any security protocols put in place post-ceasefire. This is the third official press event of the day, underscoring the gravity of developments between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
