The JCC meeting had an agenda focused on water sharing in common rivers, Rohingya crisis, bilateral trade and border, and connectivity, Bangladeshi media reportedly said.
Jaishankar and AK Abdul Momen chaired the 6th JCC meeting which was held on a virtual platform.
Both ministers predictably talked about “the draft of the water sharing treaty of six common rivers — Monu, Muhuri, Khowai, Gomti, Dharla, and Dudhkumar.” The Dhaka Tribune cited the diplomatic sources and said that a guideline is expected to be given for holding the Joint Rivers Commission (JRC) meeting soon.
The last meeting of the JRC was reportedly held in New Delhi, 2010. Last year, after Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India, both countries agreed “to direct the JRC technical committee to exchange updated data and information and prepare a draft framework to this end.”
