Hemant Patil writes to EC, demands immediate announcement of local body elections

The elections to the local bodies in the state have been struck since the last several months, that is the main reason that no development work in rural areas including urban areas are taking place.

Hemant Patil, the national president of India Against Corruption, has approached the State Election Commission demanding that the local government elections be announced immediately.

He said that the elections of Mahanagara Palika, Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Committees have not been announced for the past few months despite them being due.

The Election commission making delayed to conduct the elections by giving various reasons which are making hindrance to carry out development work in rural areas.

As per the constitution, the election commission cannot be postponed for more than six months

This kind of delay in holding elections to local bodies has never been seen before, he added

Payil said due to the delay in the elections, the common voters along with the representatives of parties are also suffering. The pace of local development works is slow. Effective implementation of government schemes is impossible without the participation of people’s representatives, he added. He said that Gram Panchayat elections in the state was conducted smoothly. Now Election commission should announce the elections of local bodies, demanded Patil.
