On Wednesday, Thakur wrote a letter to the local police of Hathras and claimed that he and the woman were friends. He said, he and his friends are being framed by the family in this case and they sought justice. The family had a problem with their daughter and his friendship, and they used to brutally beat her over it, the letter said.

The letter was handwritten in Hindi with attested thumb impressions of all four accused.

The handwritten letter said, “Later, the villagers told me that her mother and brothers beat her up over our friendship, injuring her badly. I never beat her or done anything wrong with her. Her mother and brothers falsely accused me along with three of my friends and sent us to jail. We’ve done nothing wrong and are innocent. We request you to please investigate and get justice for us.”

The police had earlier claimed that there is evidence that the victim’s family knew one of the accused.

Call records reveal, the connection between the woman’s brother and Sandeep. The brother was in touch with Sandeep Thakur and some 104 calls were made between the both from October last year to March, the police claimed.

“On the day of the incident, I had gone to meet her in the fields that day where her mother and brothers were also present. I returned home after being asked by her to do so. I then started feeding cattle,” Sandeep said in the letter.

Sandeep Thakur had alleged her family ‘did not like their friendship.’

“They sent the letter to the Hathras Superintendent of Police yesterday evening and as per law, we have sent it to the Hathras Superintendent of Police. They have put forward their version of the story and now the investigating agencies will see,” Alok Singh, Senior Superintendent of Aligarh Jail said today.

The victim’s father has denied all the allegations made by the accused.

On the 14 of September, the woman was allegedly assaulted by four men of her village in the Hathras later she died last Tuesday due to gruesome injuries from the attack.
