The 56th GST Council meeting has concluded in New Delhi, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will hold a press briefing at 10 pm tonight from the National Media Centre.

The meeting, chaired by Sitharaman and attended by state finance ministers, focused on GST 2.0 reforms, including a simplified two-rate structure, changes to slabs, and possible revisions to tax rates on FMCG, footwear, and tobacco products. The upcoming announcement is expected to clarify which proposals have been approved and how the government plans to balance revenue concerns with industry demands.
