India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections increased 6.1% year-on-year in December 2025, with the government mopping up Rs 1.74 lakh crore, according to provisional data released on Thursday.

During the month, Central GST (CGST) collections stood at Rs 34,289 crore, while State GST (SGST) collections came in at Rs 41,368 crore. Integrated GST (IGST) collections were recorded at Rs 98,894 crore, reflecting steady revenue inflows from both domestic transactions and imports.

In addition, the government collected Rs 4,551 crore through the GST compensation cess, which continues as a transitional arrangement until the full settlement of loans and interest liabilities arising from the compensation mechanism.

GST refunds during December amounted to Rs 18,422 crore, marking a sharp 62% increase compared with the same month last year, indicating faster processing and higher refund outflows.

The December numbers suggest stable GST revenue performance toward the end of 2025, supported by consistent consumption trends and compliance levels across sectors.
