Soon after the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) released its list of cities and their air quality Index (AQI), The second phase of GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) was implemented in Delhi after the meeting held on Monday.
“The cold has started increasing in Delhi and the speed of the wind has decreased, this may increase pollution… The particulate matter is staying near the ground. The second phase of GRAP has been implemented in Delhi… A meeting has been called with all the concerned departments to discuss the execution of the GRAP phase 2.” told Delhi’s environment minister Gopal Rai adressing a Press conference.

Rai added, “The weather is not in our hands but the sources need to be controlled so that the effect of pollution on the health of the people is reduced as much as possible.”
Recently, the Union Cabinet Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Bhupendra Yadav held a meeting with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in virtual mode with Environment Ministers and senior officials from neighbouring states on the preparedness and taking ahead the multi-pronged action plan on air quality.

‘Good’ of the Air Quality Index (AQI) lies between 0-50, ‘Satisfactory’ between 51-100, ‘Moderate’ between 101-200, ‘Poor’ between 201-300, ‘Very Poor’ between 301-400 and ‘Severe’ between 401-500 as mentioned by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
What is GRAP?
Graded Response Action Plan is a set of emergency measures that kick in to prevent further deterioration of air quality once it reaches a certain threshold in the Delhi-NCR region approved by the Supreme Court in 2016.
