Govt should execute urgent evacuation of Indians stuck in Ukraine: Rahul Gandhi

Taking to twitter, Rahul Gandhi said, “Visuals of Indian students in bunkers are disturbing. Many are stuck in eastern Ukraine which is under heavy attack.”

New Delhi Feb 26 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday appealed to the central government to execute the urgent evacuation plan of Indian students who are stuck in war torn country Ukraine and said his thoughts are with their worried family members. Taking to twitter, Rahul Gandhi said, “Visuals of Indian students in bunkers are disturbing. Many are stuck in eastern Ukraine which is under heavy attack.” “My thoughts are with their worried family members. Again, I appeal to GOI to execute urgent evacuation” he tweeted. There are approximately 18,000 Indians present in Ukraine and many have sought shelter in the underground bunkers to stay safe as Russia is carrying out bombing raids across the country. Meanwhile Air India will operate two flights to Romanian capital Bucharest and Hungarian capital Budapest for Delhi and Mumbai on Saturday to evacuate standard Indian’s who have reached the Ukraine border by road. According to MEA, the first batch of evacuees from Ukraine reached Romanian via Suceava border crossing on Friday. “Our team at Suceava will now facilitate travel to Bucharest for their onward journey to India” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said. MEA has also advised the Indian in Ukraine to not move to any border post without prior coordination with government of India. “All Indian Citizens in Ukraine are advised to not move to any of the border posts without prior coordination with Government of India officials at the border posts (helpline numbers established) and the Emergency numbers of Embassy of India, Kyiv” Bagchi tweeted.
