The Indian government has introduced a minimum import price (MIP) of ₹20,108 per tonne on Disodium Carbonate, commonly known as soda ash. This regulation, effective immediately, will remain in force until June 30, 2025, according to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on Monday.

Soda ash is a crucial component in multiple industries, including glass manufacturing, chemicals, and detergents. The new import pricing policy aims to safeguard domestic producers from potential undervaluation of imported goods while maintaining industry competitiveness.

The DGFT added that from July 1, 2025, the existing free import policy will be reinstated unless further amendments are made. This decision is part of the government’s broader efforts to support domestic industries and promote economic stability in key sectors.
