Jagadish Shettar, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, has rejoined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday. This move comes less than a year after he left the party, citing “ill treatment,” and joined the Congress. Notably, his previous switch occurred just days before the 2023 Karnataka Assembly election, where he contested and lost to the BJP.
The re-entry of the six-time MLA into the BJP was endorsed by Home Minister Amit Shah and unfolded at the party’s headquarters in Delhi. The event was attended by BY Vijayendra, the party’s Karnataka unit chief, and the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, BS Yediyurappa.
Jagadish Shettar had joined the Congress after being denied a ticket to contest in the Karnataka election last year. Following his departure, BS Yediyurappa expressed that Shettar had “made a mistake.”
After formally rejoining the BJP, Shettar revealed that he had a morning meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He announced his intention to resign from the position of Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), which he held on a Congress ticket. Shettar has already submitted his resignation through email and informed KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar about stepping down from the primary membership of the Congress.
