In connection with a money laundering investigation involving a loan from the ICICI bank and the Videocon Group, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained Chanda Kochhar, a former CEO of ICICI, and her husband Deepak Kochhar on Friday. In 2012, the organisation had gotten a loan from the bank for Rs 3,250 crore.

According to a PTI report, Venugopal Dhoot of the Videocon Group was also detained, along with the businesses Nupower Renewables, Supreme Energy, Videocon International Electronics Ltd, and Videocon Industries Limited.

Dhoot, Chanda Kochhar, and her husband were named as defendants in the FIR filed under IPC sections related to criminal conspiracy and the Prevention of Corruption Act. He allegedly put crores of rupees into Nupower months after the Videocon Group received the large loan.

Some loans were allegedly sanctioned to private companies in a criminal conspiracy with others to defraud ICICI Bank, according to a statement issued by the CBI following the filing of the FIR in 2019.
