The Indian Air Force has confirmed that the pilot lost his life in the crash, which occurred on Friday afternoon at Al Maktoum International Airport. The Tejas, India’s indigenous light combat aircraft, was performing an aerial display when it suddenly appeared to lose control mid-maneuver. Witnesses described a steep upward sweep that abruptly stalled, sending the jet spiralling towards the ground. Seconds later, a plume of thick black smoke rose into the sky, triggering panic among attendees on the final day of the airshow.
In its statement, the IAF said the aircraft “met with an accident during an aerial display,” and added that immediate rescue efforts were made but the pilot sustained fatal injuries. The force expressed deep grief over the loss and extended its support to the pilot’s family during this extremely difficult moment.
The newly surfaced crash-site image reflects the severity of the impact. The ground is charred, sections of the aircraft are barely recognisable, and emergency crews are seen spraying foam to cool the burning wreckage. Fire engines and rescue units remain positioned around the area, emphasizing the scale of the response.
Authorities in Dubai have launched a full investigation, while Indian aviation specialists are expected to assist in determining what led to the catastrophic failure. Mechanical issues, display-sequence dynamics, and environmental factors will all be examined closely.
